Another Opening Day. Another Epic Fail for the MLB Mobile App.
You might think that, after more than a decade, Major League Baseball’s “At Bat” mobile app would be pretty reliable.
You would be wrong.
Instead of live play-by-play audio, eager fans paying $20 a year were greeted with error messages and MLB’s equivalent of hold music. Users of the app posted to X (Twitter), inquiring if it was a problem for others or just them. It quickly became apparent that it was a widespread issue.
I experienced the same problems, on both iOS and Android devices, despite having the latest application updates and multiple reboots.
Attempts to report the problem via the “Contact Us” option in the app only resulted in more frustration, as their customer support system prompted me again for login credentials — even though I was already logged into the app — and then failed to recognize them.
I can honestly say that this problem has occurred every single year for the past several years, perhaps the past decade. It is as if MLB fires all their developers at the end of the season, deletes all their source code, and then develops the app from scratch every spring, making all the same mistakes that they made last year.
